Pre-K 4 SA celebrated the grand opening of its new South Education Center, marking a significant expansion in early childhood education for families who live on the South Side.

The City of San Antonio’s preschool program, Pre-K 4 SA, officially opened its new South Education Center Wednesday.

The new facility is currently at full capacity with 360 students across its 16 preschool classes and four toddler and infant rooms.

The center will provide learning for 3 and 4-year-old students as well as the program’s first classrooms for babies and toddlers.

The San Antonio City Council approved a $60.522 million budget for Pre-K 4 SA for fiscal year 2025-26 during its May 29 meeting, which will fund a series of early childhood education initiatives.

Pre-K 4 SA’s South Education Center will move farther south from its City Base location to an 8-acre lot off of South WW White Road in August, and for the first time in its history, Pre-K 4 SA will offer care for toddlers and infants under the age of 3.

Texas A&M University-San Antonio broke ground this week on the first Educare school in the state, occupying land on the South Side campus. The facility, scheduled to open by summer 2026, is expected to help over 200 children and their families, according to a university news release.

H-E-B and the San Antonio Food Bank are set to distribute 2,000 food packs and produce bags to students and families in Pre-K 4 SA on Friday.
