As two public programs committed to promoting childhood literacy, Pre-K 4 SA and San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) are a perfect match for partnership. Throughout the year, Pre-K 4 SA and SAPL partner to host several events that encourage families to read together.
Settle In For a Bedtime Story
Making reading together part of a bedtime routine is a great way to support children’s literacy while creating meaningful opportunities for families to bond. Reading before bedtime can also help children and adults relax and prepare for a good night’s sleep.
Families can make bedtime reading even more engaging with the SAPL Bedtime Story Hotline. The service offers children and families the opportunity to listen to a story read aloud by a San Antonio Public Library staff member, making it easy to bring the joy of storytime into the bedtime routine from home. Little Read Wagon Is Rolling Into Pre-K 4 SA
Little Read Wagon is an SAPL program that aims to empower families by giving them the tools they need to support children’s literacy. Members of the library’s early childhood outreach team visits preschools and childcare centers around the city, where they supply books and set up reading tents where children and families can read together. This creates a memorable experience for everyone who participates and helps to foster a love of reading.
The SAPL team also uses this opportunity to engage families, helping them see the important role they play in teaching their children to read and offering advice and materials that can help them along their child’s reading journey.
